First to Tenners! Thank you for your patience while I was busy the last 2 weeks. Unfortunately the last 2 weeks were very disconnected for me from FGC things and involved other aspects we need to take care of in life like visiting our loved ones (family) and also spending some time geeking out at a convention!
But hey, we’re back! This week I wanted to shine some light on one of the ladies in the NRS scene who has been scratching her way up the ladder showing she’s a force to be reckoned with. Sedria, or otherwise known as Infinitii, is an NRS game player from Florida who has made a lot of noise with her Catwoman during Injustice 2 and also started getting some hype back in MKX for her Mileena after she took out Trepound at CEO 2016.
I’ve had the pleasure of becoming friends with this lovely lady last year and getting to know her more and she is honestly lovely. Not only does she stay true to her friends but also she stays true to herself and never gives up. She puts a lot of work into these games she loves and just keeps leveling up. I feel we will see her getting a top 8 someday at a major with the way she puts in work to this game. She also recently was sponsored as a player by HZRD so if you find her on twitter make sure to give her a congrats. This is a great accomplishment for her!
Without further ado let’s get into the interview with Miss Sedria herself:
- Thank you for joining us. As protocol, we like to introduce our guests. Please tell everyone briefly about who you are and where you come from.
I am Infinitii, a NRS gamer and I represent Orlando, Florida!
- What got you into NRS games and additionally competing in them?
I’ve been playing Mortal Kombat for as long as I can remember, it’s always been my favorite fighting game series. My family inspired me to compete because I was undefeated in the household, and when my older brother invited his friends over to play none of them could beat me either. It made me think “maybe I’m better than average,” and I wanted to put it to the test!
- What was your first competition? How did you feel finally doing it and what did you learn?
My first competition was at a GameStop for the MK9 midnight release. I felt very nervous at first because I was really young and the only female there. I ended up winning and surprising a lot of people, and I learned how to adapt to different opponents and sharpen my gameplay.
- What has been your favorite part about the NRS community so far?
My favorite part about the NRS community is the amazing people I’ve had the opportunity to become friends with. For the longest time I didn’t know any other female gamers, and I was usually shunned by people for how much time I put into games. However now, I’ve received a lot of support from many people and I’m so glad I took the chance on competing.
- What is your favorite thing about competing? Least favorite?
My favorite thing about competing is the experience of it all; spending hours battling people and learning new things, the traveling, the hype crowds, it’s all so pleasing. My least favorite thing is how nervous I get on stream; my nerves are pretty bad sometimes.
- Who are your mains in NRS games? What makes you decide on a character?
Mileena and Catwoman are my mains for Mortal Kombat and Injustice, and their gameplay is the last reason why. I genuinely love my characters! When I first laid eyes on Mileena it was love at first sight. I adore how brutal and beautiful she is, she’s all around aesthetically pleasing. Catwoman has always been one of my favorite comic characters, so when I saw her on Injustice it was a no-brainer that I’d main her. They ironically have a similar play style and they’re both a lot of fun to use!
- Have you had any challenges you had to overcome? What did you do to overcome them?
Learning the inside outs of frame data was challenging for me. For the longest time I solely played by feel and reaction, I didn’t bother studying frames. But ever since I took the time to learn it and implement it into my gameplay, I feel that I am improving much faster.
- Your mom is often someone we’ve seen there at tournaments supporting you. How did that start and are there others who are always there by your side while you compete?
My mom introduced me to Mortal Kombat. We have a copy of every single Mortal Kombat game. She always adored watching me play, so when I discovered major tournaments she tagged along, supporting me the whole way. Dom and Ahlia, my best friends, also tag along with me to various major/local tournaments and cheer me on. They cosplay with me too, which is always fun!
- What are some of your hobbies outside of playing fighting games?
Writing is a huge hobby of mine outside of gaming. I’ve writing two book length fan-fictions about Mileena, and I am currently working on a novel series that I plan to publish in the future.
- What tournaments do you plan on going to this year? What are your goals?
I plan on going to Combo Breaker, CEO and EVO for sure. But I will try to attend as many tournaments as I can outside of those three as well.
